The sacred altar to heaven

The sacred altar to heaven

Every year, on the seventh day of February in the lunar calendar, Bowan village holds a ceremony to worship the heaven in this altar. The main altar is dedicated to the God of Heaven (the father-in-law of Chongren lane, the ancestor of mankind), the God of Earth (the mother-in-law of Chongren Lane), and the uncle of Heaven (the father-in-law of Chongren lane, the first grandmother lining up the constant praise of Bai); the left side is dedicated to the God of nature "sign" and the altar of burning incense.

According to the Naxi tradition, the new year's worship is the most sacred folk worship ceremony in the year. Different heaven worship communities, linked by blood, offer sacrifices, worship and pray for benefits to the gods in a fixed heaven worship field.

Naxi people consider themselves the offspring of heaven. The significance of offering sacrifices to heaven lies in praying for the prosperity of children and grandchildren, the harmony of families and the prosperity of the nation; cherishing the future with care so that future generations will not forget the kindness of their , so that the etiquette system and traditional customs handed down from generation to generation can be inherited and carried forward; standardizing people's social behaviors and cultivating good ethical concepts. Offering sacrifices to heaven is an important manifestation of Naxi's cultural psychology, and also an important way to enhance national traditional consciousness and internal cohesion.
